Out of Hand

Wedding photography is something I've been doing more and more of lately. It's not always the most stress-free day of work but the challenge is good fun and very rewarding. Here's an example of one of those days where things don't go to plan. Rain. It's nearly always unexpected and there's not anything you can do to get rid of it. But it's how you deal with it that keeps the pictures looking good.

You'd expect rain to ruin a wedding day but actually all the water droplets and clouds add an element of drama hard to find on a hot, sunny day. The pictures can become a lot more atmospheric, especially if there's a bit of wind brushing through their hair. It's like your personal wind machine. Showing off the rings is always difficult to capture in an interesting and unique way. I like to try and add something else to the image. Here the wedding car has been used, which is a nice way to capture that in another shot too. The details of a wedding day can often be missed; the rings, the watch, the cufflinks. And hands modelled in the correct way can capture some of the romance of the newly married couple.
