Bright, Vibrant, Bustling streets in Jaipur, India - DunlopPrints Blog #2

The second in my new blog series to relate to you the adventure behind each of my travel photography prints on my Etsy print shop, DunlopPrints. The sights, sounds and smells surrounding the photograph, and today we are in Jaipur, India. Today’s picture is of a market seller in the centre of the city.

We had spent some of the morning in the Amber Fort, to the North of the city. Although Jaipur is one of the stops on the famous “golden triangle” route in India it’s not a place you tend to hear about much. New Deli or Agra with the Taj Mahal taking more of the limelight. I however loved this city, It had an ancient charm about it, a slower pace to Deli and much more history to explore than at Agra. As we wound up through the beautiful hills we found ourselves surrounded by peaceful bodies of water, plentiful amounts of old temples and forts and even a long, meandering, old wall (reminiscent of the great wall of China) sweeping over the hills providing great views of the city.

After lunch we headed into the heart of Jaipur, you go through Jaipur’s old walled city gates and your on the main stretch. I immediately grabbed my camera, left the car behind and started to explore!

I found a great little market street full of spice sellers, shoe makers, rug weavers and an abundance of life. I loved people watching down this street, soo much happening.

This is where I found the lady photographed in my featured print in this blog. Sat on the floor, selling vibrant, bright green chillies! I love this photo for the colours, the emotion and how it instantly takes me back to the feeling exploring those unique streets in Jaipur.

I next took a quick trip down the narrow streets off the main road and things got even more interesting. I love how bustling and diverse the streets in a busy city in India can be. I wandered in with my camera ready, being stared at by most people I walked past. (Very tall English man with a large camera…clearly not a local out to buy some spices.) It feels a little off-putting and slightly uncomfortable at first and then I realised my fascination and picture taking of their seemingly normal backstreets is probably a good reason to stare. So I continued deeper into the heart of this maze of small streets.

I loved how much goes on even in the narrowest streets, bikes, cyclists, mopeds, tuk tuks and lots of people all coming and going at once. And none of it seems to phase anyone (Just the big tall English man seems to get everyone’s attention.)

Time seemed to disappear as I continued wandering through the streets. Playing chicken with the tuk tuks and motorbikes…

Next as I started to find my way back to the main streets I started the challenge of finding who was able to carry the biggest items on the smallest vehicle. It’s amazing what you can fit on a bike. Sometimes no bike is needed just a strong, steady shoulder!

Finally on the way out of the city, if the small streets aren’t generating enough business… move it onto the main road, literally!
