V Double U - Cars and Vans - Skeg Vegas 2016

My first attempt photographing a car show! Not quite sure which category this post should fall into on my site but I traveled to get there, so travel will do. (It certainly wasn't anything like a wedding anyway!)

Did I know what to expect on this day? No I did not. Landscapes I can do, the beauty speaks for itself. People, fine. Tell them where to stand and what to do. But cars, how could I make them look good in a photograph!?

It didn't take long before went and fetched my trusty 50mm f1.4. I rely on this lens too much, but it looks great. I got into the swing of things pretty quick, everyone is really friendly at a show like this so that makes things easier, they also love interest in their car and all the work gone into it so they're inviting photos.

I started to notice a lot of vehicles that caught my eye and like the picture above I started to compose my pictures to include more than one at a time in the shot. It captures the show vibe nicely, cars lurking in the background saying "Please come and see me next!"

There is such variety at a show like this. This was my first time attending Skeg Vegas, always a great show my friends reliably inform me though. I thought it was a good idea to try and capture a few of the smaller details, some seriously low cars and some seriously shiny cars.

The wheel of this beetle reflected the green mk1 golf nicely. Overall I had a great time and really enjoyed the show. If you're trying to photograph cars take your time, enjoy the show and find the smaller details in the cars. Plan a shot rather than just snapping everything you think looks "cool."

I really like this side shot of this one, kind of a shame the van behind is parked on a bump, it detracts from the nice straight lines but what are you going to do? Jack up the front end?!

Hope you've enjoyed the slightly different post today.
